An Aisin eight-speed: smooth, and sensitive to fluid

Aisin's eight-speed automatics shift through clutch packs inside the gearbox and use a torque converter with a lock-up clutch that engages at cruising speeds to cut slip. Smooth shifts and a lock-up that does not shudder both depend on the fluid's friction behaviour. A fluid that is "nearly right" can show up as a slight shudder at steady speeds or harsher shifts once it is hot.

Systems of the kind Changan describes send drive mainly to one axle and engage the other through an electronically controlled coupling when grip or driving conditions call for it. That coupling, the propeller shaft and the rear differential each have their own lubrication needs, separate from the gearbox ATF. Changan's published material does not list them, so we confirm the oils and any service schedule by VIN.

Why tyres matter on an AWD UNI-K

The UNI-K Limited runs 265/45 R21 tyres. On an all-wheel-drive car, a mix of tyre sizes, brands or tread depths makes the front and rear axles turn at slightly different speeds, which the coupling then has to absorb continuously. To protect the driveline, replace tyres as a matched set, or at least keep the same size and model on all four, and rotate them as the service book recommends.
