A fully loaded three-row SUV asks the engine for more torque, more often: pulling away on a slope, merging with a full car, climbing multi-storey car parks. On a turbocharged engine that means longer periods of boost, higher oil temperatures and more work for the turbo bearings, which are lubricated and cooled by the engine oil. Oil that has aged past its interval loses protection fastest in exactly these moments.
Direct injection and the oil label
The "GDI" in 2.0TGDI means fuel is injected straight into the cylinders. Engines of this type can produce carbon deposits and small amounts of fuel in the oil, particularly on short trips. Oils carry approvals that test for these conditions, so the approval Exeed specifies matters as much as the viscosity grade. Neither is printed in the brochure, which is why we use the VIN.
