Turbo engines and cooling

A turbocharger compresses hot intake air and spins in hot exhaust gas, so a turbo engine sheds more heat into its cooling system than a non-turbo engine of the same size. On many designs coolant also flows through the turbo housing. A cooling system that is low, old or mixed with the wrong product struggles first in exactly the conditions where the turbo is working: climbing, overtaking or a loaded summer drive.

Choose by specification, not by colour

Coolants are dyed for identification, but colours are not standardised across brands. Two products of the same colour can use different corrosion inhibitors, and some types react badly when mixed. Read the specification on the bottle, match it to Haval's requirement for your Jolion, and avoid topping up with tap water, which leaves minerals in the system.

A safe level check

Do it in the morning before the first drive, when the engine has cooled overnight. The translucent reservoir shows the level through its side, so the cap can stay closed. Note where the level sits against the marks and compare it a week later: a steady level is good news, a falling one means a leak somewhere, often at a hose joint.

A Jolion parked outdoors in July starts every drive already hot under the bonnet, then spends much of it in slow traffic with the A/C condenser warming the air before it reaches the radiator. Keep the front grille clear of dust and insects, and check the coolant level before summer and after any work on the cooling system or expansion tank.
