What a dual-clutch gearbox needs from its fluid
A dual-clutch gearbox pre-selects the next gear on a second clutch, which is why its shifts are quick. Some dual-clutch designs run their clutches in fluid (wet clutch), and others run them dry with the gears in a separate oil. The fluid each design needs is different.
Jetour UAE's documents describe the X70 Plus gearbox as a 7-speed DCT but do not say which design it is. This is one more reason to use only the fluid Jetour specifies for your car rather than a generic product.
DCT fluid, ATF and manual gear oil are different products
- DCT fluid: formulated for dual-clutch gearboxes and their clutch friction requirements.
- ATF: formulated for conventional automatics with a torque converter and hydraulic shift control.
- Manual gear oil: formulated for gear and synchroniser protection in manual gearboxes.
Matching viscosity on the label does not make them interchangeable. The wrong family can upset clutch engagement and shift quality.
