MG RX9 Engine Oil Guide: NF2 2.0T

Why the engine code helps

Unlike many brochures, MG UAE prints the engine code for the RX9: NF2. Oil requirements are set per engine code, so when you or a workshop look up the oil, search for the NF2 requirement in MG's service data rather than a generic "2.0 turbo" recommendation. It also makes ordering a matching oil filter straightforward.

Seven seats, one turbo

With all seven seats in use and luggage behind them, the RX9 asks the engine for high torque at low revs, especially on ramps and when pulling out into traffic. Under that load the oil film in the bearings and the turbocharger is under the most stress. Old or wrong oil gives a smaller safety margin exactly when the car is heaviest.

After a long, loaded drive, a short idle before switching off helps the turbocharger shed heat.

Signs not to ignore

• Oil-pressure warning: stop safely and switch off. With a correct level, have the oil pressure sensor and pump tested.
• Drips under the front: check the drain plug and the oil pan gasket.
• Blue smoke on acceleration: may point to the turbocharger seals.

A family seven-seater in the UAE

Seven-seaters here often do two very different jobs in one week: crawling through school pick-up queues with the rear A/C running, then a long run to another emirate fully loaded. Oil sees heat from idling and heavy load from the trip, which is why the severe-use column of the RX9 service book is the one to follow for many families. We have not verified MG's interval, so we don't quote one.
