The MG GT has two different gearboxes in MG UAE's brochure: the 1.5 uses a CVT and the 1.5T uses a dual-clutch DCT, both driving the front wheels. CVT faults tend to show as judder, whine or rev flare; DCT faults as jerky low-speed engagement, hesitation, rough shifts or a clutch-heat warning. Causes range from fluid and software to clutch or internal wear, so a qualified workshop diagnosis comes first. ShipMyPart then identifies your gearbox by VIN and sources the matching parts.
| Version | Engine | Transmission | How it transmits power |
|---|---|---|---|
| GT 1.5 | 1,498 mL, 140 N·m | CVT | Variable pulleys and a belt or chain, no fixed gears |
| GT 1.5T | 1,490 mL turbo, 275 N·m | Dual-clutch DCT | Two clutches alternately engaging odd and even gears |
Both are front-wheel drive. The two gearboxes share no major internal parts and take different fluids. MG UAE does not state whether the DCT uses wet or dry clutches, and ShipMyPart has not verified fluid types, quantities or intervals; the VIN settles which transmission is fitted.

| Situation | GT 1.5 with CVT may show | GT 1.5T with DCT may show |
|---|---|---|
| Pulling away | Shudder or a rubbery delay before the car moves | Jerk, judder or a slipping feel as the clutch bites |
| Creeping in traffic | Usually smooth; a drone or vibration is suspect | Hesitant, lurching progress; possible clutch-heat message |
| Accelerating | Revs flaring without speed, or a whine rising with speed | Delayed or harsh shifts, a thump between gears |
| Selecting D or R | Long delay or clunk | Clunk, delay, or a gear not engaging |
| Warnings | Transmission lamp, limp mode | Transmission lamp, limp mode, gear-position flashing |
Steady revs while the speed rises is normal for a CVT, and a slight mechanical feel at very low speed is normal for many DCTs.
GT 1.5 (CVT). Possible causes include aged or incorrect CVT fluid affecting belt grip, a restricted filter lowering hydraulic pressure, speed or pressure sensor faults, transmission-control software, and wear of the pulleys, belt or chain or bearings.
GT 1.5T (DCT). Possible causes include clutch wear or a clutch that needs relearning after service, actuator or mechatronic faults, transmission-control software, fluid condition, and synchroniser or bearing wear. Long periods of creeping or holding the car on a slope with the throttle can overheat DCT clutches.
Both. Worn engine or gearbox mounts can feel like a harsh engagement, and a sticky selector can send the wrong position to the control unit. None of these can be confirmed without a scan and road test.

Individual DCT clutch packs depend on the clutch type, which is not verified, so they are quoted only after the VIN and a workshop finding.
Fluid level checks on either gearbox are a workshop job; do not unscrew plugs yourself.
Have the GT diagnosed by a qualified workshop that can read MG transmission codes, check the fluid and, for the DCT, run any clutch adaptation routines. Many DCT complaints change after an adaptation or software update, so ask whether one applies before parts are replaced.
Stop driving and arrange recovery if the car will not engage D or R, you hear grinding or a heavy knock, fluid is leaking quickly, or the car loses drive. If a DCT clutch-heat warning appears, stop in a safe place with the selector in P and let it cool as the message instructs; continuing to creep can damage the clutches.
Dense commuter traffic, mall ramps and slow car-park queues are hardest on the DCT in the 1.5T, because every metre of creeping uses the clutches. Gentle, decisive moves (either moving or fully stopped with the brake on) are easier on it than inching forward. The CVT in the 1.5 copes better with crawling but dislikes long periods of high load in heat. For both, summer temperatures raise fluid temperatures, so the severe-use service schedule is worth checking.
On most models a gearbox order starts with the part name. On the GT it starts one step earlier, with the question "CVT or DCT?", because the two units share no major internals, controllers or fluids. The VIN answers it. Send it to ShipMyPart together with what the workshop found: a fault code, "TCU replacement advised", "mount split", or "DCT clutch adaptation failed". If the diagnosis points to the DCT clutches, mention it, since clutch hardware is matched only after the clutch type has been confirmed for your car. We then quote the CVT or DCT assembly, filter, control module, mounts or selector with UAE-wide delivery. Fluid guidance for both units is on the GT transmission fluid page.
Compatibility verification required
No part is listed here as compatible until it has been matched to your vehicle. Send your VIN and we will confirm which parts fit before you order.
Send your VIN (chassis number) and we will confirm the correct gearbox parts for your MG GT.
The GT 1.5 has a CVT; the GT 1.5T has a dual-clutch DCT. Both are front-wheel drive.
Some low-speed feel is normal for a DCT. Strong jerks or judder may point to clutch wear, adaptation, software or actuator issues; a workshop diagnosis is needed.
Yes, that is normal CVT behaviour. Rev flaring without acceleration is not.
No. They are different transmissions with different parts and fluids.
Stop safely, select P and let the gearbox cool as instructed. Then have it checked.
Yes. We identify CVT or DCT by VIN and quote the matching unit or parts with UAE delivery.
