A CVT in a city car
A city hatchback spends much of its life between 0 and 60 km/h, constantly pulling away and slowing down. For a CVT that means the belt and pulleys keep moving through their range under load, and the fluid keeps the belt gripping while carrying heat away. The gearbox likes smooth, progressive throttle more than sharp bursts.
CVT fluid is not ATF
CVT fluid is formulated for steel-belt friction on pulleys. ATF is formulated for clutch packs in a conventional automatic. They are not interchangeable, and the wrong fluid can lead to belt slip, which wears the belt and pulleys. If a shop offers "universal" ATF for your MG3, ask for the product that meets MG's CVT specification instead.
