Why "any green coolant" is not good enough
Coolants differ in the chemistry of their corrosion inhibitors, not just their colour. The inhibitors protect aluminium parts, the water pump seal and the radiator from corrosion and scale. Mixing incompatible types can make the inhibitors drop out as sludge, which blocks the narrow channels in the radiator and heater. Matching MG's specification avoids that.
The turbo engine and heat
On the 1.5T, the turbocharger sits in the exhaust stream and heats everything around it. After a hot run, heat soaks back into the engine bay once the car is parked.
