Every MG ZS grade on MG UAE's current brochure, with either the 1.5 or the 1.5T engine, uses a CVT (continuously variable transmission) driving the front wheels. A CVT needs the CVT fluid MG specifies, not ordinary automatic transmission fluid. ShipMyPart has not verified the fluid type, quantity or interval, and the transmission fitted to each engine version is confirmed from the VIN before we supply fluid.
Whether the 1.5 and 1.5T versions use the same CVT unit is not stated, so the VIN decides.

Fluid specifications for this model are confirmed by VIN on request.
Instead of fixed gears, a CVT changes ratio continuously by moving a steel belt or chain between two pulleys that open and close. The fluid has to let that belt grip the pulley faces without slipping, while still lubricating the bearings and operating the hydraulic system that moves the pulleys. Its friction properties are therefore very specific, which is why a CVT fluid is formulated for CVTs and often for a particular CVT design.
A fluid with the wrong friction behaviour can let the belt slip on the pulleys. Slip makes heat and wears both the belt and the pulley faces, and the control unit may react by limiting power. Damage of this kind is not reversed by changing the fluid again later, so getting the type right the first time matters.
| Feeling | Possible area |
|---|---|
| Engine revs rise but the car is slow to respond | Belt slip, fluid condition |
| Shudder pulling away gently | Fluid condition, take-off clutch, mounts |
| Whine that grows with speed | Bearings or pulleys inside the CVT |
| Warning and reduced power on a hot day | Fluid temperature, control unit |
These are possibilities, not a diagnosis.
CVT fluid ages mainly through heat. Creeping in summer queues with the air-conditioning on, or climbing multi-storey car park ramps with a full car, keeps the gearbox warm for long periods. Smooth, gentle pulling away helps; holding the car on a slope with the throttle instead of the brake does not.
| Ask | Why it matters on a ZS |
|---|---|
| Which CVT fluid is going in? | The belt-and-pulley design depends on the exact friction properties |
| Is the transmission filter included? | Fresh fluid through a clogged filter loses much of its benefit |
| Will the CVT be relearned afterwards? | Some CVTs need a diagnostic routine so take-off feels smooth again |
Send the VIN and describe what you notice, if anything. We confirm the CVT fitted and the fluid MG lists, then quote the fluid or, after your workshop's diagnosis, parts such as a replacement CVT unit or drive shafts.
Compatibility verification required
No fluid or part is listed here until its specification has been checked against MG's requirement for your vehicle. Send your VIN and we will confirm what fits before you order.
Send your VIN (chassis number) and we will confirm the correct transmission fluid for your MG ZS.
MG UAE's brochure lists a CVT on every grade, with front-wheel drive.
No, unless MG specifies it. A CVT needs the CVT fluid named in the service data.
Both are listed with a CVT, but whether it is the same unit isn't published. We check by VIN.
ShipMyPart has not verified the quantity; we confirm it by VIN.
Follow the service book or an MG service centre. We don't quote an interval until it is verified.
Possible causes include belt slip or fluid condition. Have the CVT diagnosed before long trips.
