Oil ages even when the engine rarely runs
With a 43.24 kWh battery and 160 km of WLTC electric range on the 2027 sheet, many T2 i-DM owners drive for days without the petrol engine starting. That does not make the oil last forever. Oil oxidises with time, and an engine that starts cold, runs briefly to support the battery and then stops again collects moisture and fuel in its oil without getting hot enough to drive them off.
That is why hybrid service schedules usually give a time limit as well as a distance. Check both in your service book.
Direct injection and turbo in a hybrid
The SQRH4J15 injects fuel straight into the cylinders and is turbocharged. When it starts under load, for example when the battery is low on a motorway climb, it is asked for power almost immediately. Oil with the specified approval protects the turbo bearings and resists the deposits and fuel dilution that direct-injection engines can produce. Thickness alone is not enough; the approval has to match too.
